The Rangers in the Japanese series were actual space pirates, working to collect Sentai Keys to keep their power from evil hands. In short, the designs were incredible when they were introduced in Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger, as the suits were informed by the story. Each Ranger wears a high collar jacket in their respective color, and their weapons are inspired by the cutlass and the flintlock pistol. The helmets take inspiration from tricorn hats and bandannas. The overall aesthetic is space pirates, and this is represented really well in the costume designs. In fact, it has the most costumes in the series, as it sees the Rangers able to utilize the powers of past heroes. The second half of a two-part anniversary celebrating Power Rangers' 25th anniversary, Power Rangers: Super Megaforce has some of the most unique costumes in the series. The design is overly goofy when put next to the more grounded designs of the other rangers, and while the season's story leaned into that goofiness, the Gold Ranger's design just doesn't fit with the rest of the group. Standing out in the worst way, the Gold Ranger dons a cowboy hat, tasseled poncho, and guitar gun-blade. The producers took the Gold Ninja Steel Ranger in a bizarre direction, using the star motif to represent a sheriff's star. In truth, it ranks this low solely for the introduction of the sixth ranger. With that said, you'd think that this season would be much higher on this list. The designs made sense given the season's focus, and the ninja star helmets are an inspired design choice given how these ancient weapons influence the lore and the Rangers' morphers. Given the suite of other tight-fitting suits in the franchise, Ninja Steel's costumes were a brilliant change of pace, grounding the season in its ninja themes and in reality. On the one hand, franchise designers were more inspired by Japanese cultural clothing, basing the team's costumes on traditional depictions of ninjas.
